Protect Chinatown’s Community Walks

Guidelines

  1. Be safe & be alert.

  2. Follow the 5D’s of bystander intervention (from iHollaback)

    1. Distract:
Take an indirect approach to de-escalate the situation. For example: start a conversation with the target to draw attention away from them.

    2. Delegate:
      Get help from someone else.

    3. Document:
It can be helpful for the target to have photos/videos of the incident and harasser.

    4. Direct:
Assess your safety first. Speak up about the harassment. Be firm and clear.

    5. Delay:
After the incident is over, check in with the person who was harassed.

  3. Never put yourself in any unnecessary risk.

  4. Your goal is to de-escalate and diffuse. Do not fan the flames. It’s very hard to reason with someone who is out to harm or harass.
